ABOUT VILMA'S BAKERY

Vilma’s Bakery has been in Haverstraw, NY since March 2011 and is still family owned and operated. Your hosts, Raymundo and Vilma Lopez, are Dominican-born immigrants who have accomplished their dreams of opening up their own bakery.

Vilma Lopez was born in Tamboril, Dominican Republic.  As a child she would spend most of her time with her grandmother, Lucia Reynoso.  Lucia Reynoso was a master baker and decorator of specialty Dominican cakes in the 1960s in Tamboril.  Vilma learned the secrets of baking as she spent time with and worked alongside her grandmother as she baked her specialties. In 1998 Vilma and her family moved to Washington Heights in New York for better opportunities for her and her family.  Vilma continued her love for baking and started out making baked goods for her family and friends from home.  In 2000, Vilma moved to Haverstraw, NY where she started to sell cakes from her home.  Vilma dreamed of owning her own bakery, and with the help of her husband and family, she was able to realize her dream in 2011 and the bakery finally opened.

Vilma and her family were able to keep the family tradition of providing cakes, pastries and fresh bread to the community.  Vilma and Raymundo have three children, Judith, Gina, and Ray Lopez, who have all become part of the family business as they all work and participate in the bakery.

Vilma and Raymundo’s welcoming personality has made the bakery a huge success. They attribute their success to the unconditional support that they have received from their family, friends, clients, and the Haverstraw, Rockland and Tri-State communities.

As a small business in Haverstraw, Vilma’s has created a team of employees who passionately work to ensure great customer service and the production of delicious tasting cakes with beautiful decoration.

Today Vilma and Raymundo continue to work every day to help customers celebrate any occasion by providing the customer with custom-made cake or sweets of their choice.
